Spring 2010 Hair Trends

Braided Beauty
Say so long to classic braids: Plaits have seen a fresh new twist on both the red carpet and the runway. Stars like Jessica Alba and Zoe Saldana are opting for cinnamon-bun chignons and wraparound braids. Looks like they've been taking notes from designer Oscar de la Renta, who's inspired starlets to give their elegant updos a bit of edge.

Faux Real
With red carpet's full of hair extensions it's hard to tell what's real and what's not. This season it's all about minimizing those long locks with a faux-bob. The stunning Camilla Belle showed how you can easily pin your long tresses up with a few bobby pins to achieve this off-the-runway look.

Perfectly Messy
Messy updos are a big trend this season and they couldn't be easier to style at home. Draw inspiration from Chanel and Lanvin's 2010 Spring looks for tips and tricks on how to style your version of this fashion updo.

Bohemian Ballerina
The ballerina bun is a simple and elegant hairstyle for spring. It can be dressed up or down and worn for many different occasions. Style queen Jennifer Lopez went for ultra volume while emulating the Lanvin Spring 2010 look.

Twisted Sister
Top knots have taken on a tidy look that sits at the crown of the head. Seen at Marc Jacobs and Nina Ricci, sleek top knots look best when hair is twisted and pinned into place. Don't be afraid to add ribbon or some embellishment to accentuate the feminine style.

Retro Waves
1940s style waves continue to inspire hairstyles in 2010. This look is suitable for all hair colors and looks best on mid-length to long hair. Stars like Megan Fox and Angelina Jolie have given the look a new twist with a deep side part and classic pin-up-girl makeup.

Textured Imperfection
Highly textured locks popped up on several runways this season. Drew Barrymore also showed off the textured look, which went a little haphazard from the back-combing. When teased in moderation, this look is very wearable. So, why not work texture into your style this seasoN?

Flat Top
There was a hint of at the Spring 2010 runway shows. While it could be mistaken for a mullet,  this sleek flat top can look oh-so-chic when done right. It's a great alternative to the half-shaven hairstyle that's turned up on many celebs. Kim Kardashian put a spin on the trend with structured waves.

Slicked
If there's a 2010 hairstyle that screams attitude, it's slicked hair. When polished with gel like the gorgeous Heidi Klum, this hairdo can put a fresh spin on any elegant look. Although we can't help but conjure images from Robert Palmer's 1980s classic music video, "Addicted To Love".

Hair Bows
Over-the-top bows appeared on the Louis Vuitton and Luella runways. We haven't seen anyone don colorful bows yet, but celebs like Lady Gaga and Kelly Osbourne rocked some pretty interesting bows made out of hair. This trend can be easily adapted with a smaller version of a hair bow.

Accessorize with a Braid
Of the recent crop of braided coifs, the slightly messy side braid emerged as the most versatile and popular. Kate Bosworth and Selena Gomez recently flaunted textured side-swept versions like those seen on the catwalks at Alexander Wang and Miu Miu.

Fishbone Plait
One of the most unique styles of the ponytail is the fishbone braid. Texture and plaiting join forces this season to showcase the fishbone at its finest. While the look is a refreshing spin on a classic braid, one might need a stylist's assistance to achieve this complex look.

Bursting with Color
Celebs like Ashley Olsen and Nicki Minaj have gone streaking by adding subtle streaks of color to their otherwise classic hairdos. Designers Jeremy Scott and Proenza Schouler added some flair to their models with colorful ribbons and extensions. While some can pull this look off, others should tread lightly when it comes to rainbow hair dye.

Teased to Perfection
Sexy, disheveled, and undone. This is a rock-and-roll girl after a night of dancing or just Kirsten Dunst walking the red carpet. This unstructured look is slightly teased and has loads of volume. Give your 'do some extra drama with a fine-tooth comb and some sassy curls.

Wet and Wild
Whether smoothed back or completed with a chic side part, gelled locks radiate femininity with a hint of androgynous beauty. The jury is still out on this polished wet look, but if anyone can take a stab at the daring 'do, it's Heidi Klum.
