Famous Fears and Phobias Celebrity

Pamela Anderson
Millions of people love looking at Pamela Anderson, but she's not one of them. "I have this phobia: I don't like mirrors. And I don't watch myself on television. If anything comes on, I make them shut it off, or I leave the room."

Billy Bob Thornton
Billy Bob isn't joking when he says old furniture and silverware creep him out. "I just don't like old stuff," he says. "I'm creeped out by it, and I have no explanation why...I don't have a phobia about American antiques, it's mostly French — you know, like the big, old, gold-carved chairs with the velvet cushions. The Louis XIV type. That's what creeps me out."

Nicole Kidman
Nicole Kidman's delicate sensibilities are upset by the most delicate of insects. "It's so bizarre. I'm not afraid of snakes or spiders. But I'm scared of butterflies," she once told In Style.

Matthew McConaughey
Matthew McConaughey says snakes aren't one of his top five phobias, but revolving doors are. "I don't like revolving doors, and I really don't like that blindspot when you're driving and go into a tunnel. You know that spot where you can't see for about 10 feet. You can't see what's in front of you or if someone's broken down or something in front of you."

Uma Thurman
Uma Thurman is claustrophobic and told ivillage.com that shooting the scene in Kill Bill 2 where she's buried alive was particularly challenging. "There was no acting required, real screams available. It was horrific. You don't want to have that experience."

Keanu Reeves
When it comes to fears, Keanu Reeves has thought this out. "I am afraid of the dark. But I mean that in a real philosophical way." Whoa.

Sarah Michelle Gellar
Sarah's fear of cemeteries was particularly problematic while shooting Buffy the Vampire Slayer. "I have an irrational fear of cemeteries and being buried alive." She added: "It's really hard to be a vampire slayer if you're scared of cemeteries..."

Tobey Maguire
While promoting Spider-Man 2, Tobey Maguire admitted that he could never really be like his comic book counterpart because he's afraid of heights. "Standing on the edge of a building, looking over the edge -- it's so horrible. I hate it."

Scarlett Johansson
ScarJo has a real problem around creepy crawly cockroaches. Back when she was promoting Eight Legged Freaks she explained, "I live in New York. I found one in my shoe and on my face one morning." Enough said.

Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake moved to Florida early in life, but growing up near the water didn't dispel his fear of sharks. “We started going to Coco Beach every weekend. All of a sudden sharks started to attack. I was afraid to go back into the water.”

Whoopi Goldberg
In 2009 Whoopi Goldberg got on a plane for the first time in 13 years to check out rehearsals for a London stage production of Sister Act. She says it was thanks in part to Virgin Atlantic's "Flying Without Fear" program. She had previously admitted to Jay Leno that it took her 48 hours to get from New York City to Los Angeles by bus.

David Beckham
You could call David Beckham's fear of disorder ataxophobia. The British soccer star once explained: "I have to have everything in a straight line or everything has to be in pairs. I'll put my Pepsi cans in the fridge and if there's one too many then I'll put it in another cupboard somewhere. I'll go into a hotel room and before I can relax I have to move all the leaflets and all the books and put them in a drawer."

Kim Basinger
Kim Basinger suffers from agoraphobia, a combination of fear and anxiety triggered by the prospect of heading into open space with other people around such as shopping malls. The disorder played a large part in her divorce from actor Alec Baldwin in 2002.

Johnny Depp
This swash buckling star is fearless onscreen, but don't get Johnny Depp near any clowns. "Something about the painted face, the fake smile. There always seemed to be a darkness lurking just under the surface, a potential for real evil."

Christina Ricci
Don't bring Christina Ricci around any of your house plants. The actress can't stand the things. "They are dirty. If I have to touch one, after already being repulsed by the fact that there is a plant indoors, then it just freaks me out."
