Famous Frenemies Celebrity

Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton
On The Simple Life, Richie was cast as Hilton's meaner, shorter sidekick, and we suppose that rankled. Rumor has it that Richie decided to pop in a copy of Hilton's infamous sex tape at a party, sparking a long feud between the two. They've since made up, but they've never been as close as they once were.

Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox
Rumors swirl that these two don't get along so great off the set. According to the National Enquirer, Anniston's go-go lifestyle doesn't gel with Cox's more sedate, family-oriented life. "Courteney and Jen will always be friends,” said a source speaking to the Enquirer, “but right now they’ve drifted apart because they’re at different stages in their lives, with different priorities.”

Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag
These two were such good frenemies, they based a whole season of The Hills around it. LC and Heidi were former roommates, but once Montag began seeing Spencer Pratt, things rapidly got mean, with Pratt spreading rumor's of an LC sex tape. The two have reportedly made up, but we don't see them being BFFs anytime soon.

Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan
During the early '00s, Lindsay and Paris were best buds, often seen out partying in LA's hottest nightclubs. But starting around 2006, the two seem to have had a falling out. One infamous incident reportedly had Lohan getting in a screaming fight with both Hilton sisters at the club Hyde. Another had Hilton's friend Brandon Davis telling paps that Lohan was a "firecrotch."

Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus
These two were fast friends for a time, part of the same generation of rising Disney stars. Then along came Nick Jonas. Cyrus dated him first, before the two broke it off. Then rumors began that Gomez was seeing Jonas. So Cyrus took to YouTube, filming a video mocking Gomez's looks. She later apologized, but we don't see the two hanging out together anytime soon.

Whitney Port and Olivia Palermo
When Whitney Port took off from The Hills to start up her new gig on The City, she found a perfect foil in Olivia Palermo. Palermo, a socialite on the rise, seemed to alternate between helping out Port and subtly undermining the recent transplant. Port, for her part, told Jimmy Kimmel: “I don’t know if I hate her... She treats me like a pet project, like out of the middle of nowhere I was born just yesterday. Sometimes I want to slap her.”

Winona Ryder and Gwyneth Paltrow
Once upon a time, Paltrow and Ryder were best buds. Ten years later Paltrow opened up about a "former friend" (whom most assumed was Ryder) in her newsletter GOOP. "[She] was pretty hell-bent on taking me down," wrote Paltrow. "This person really did what they could to hurt me." Rumor has it the fued started when Paltrow snagged the lead in Shakespeare in Love away from Ryder.

Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato
These two Disney Darlings seemed destined to be BFFs -- they've even both dated Jonas Brothers. But lately they've drifted apart. Said Demi in a recent magazine interview: “There are times when even if you’ve known someone for a long time, you change. Just because we were best friends doesn’t mean we’re always going to stay best friends.”

Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian
They're both paparazzi favorites with mega-successful lifestyle brands. But it seems like Hilton and Kardashian just don't get along too well. Blame it on egos, perhaps. "Even when I would talk to editors of magazines about featuring Kim, they would comment on how they are moving past Paris in hopes to bring someone fresh to the spotlight, like Kim," wrote Kardashian's ex-rep, Jonathan Jaxson.

Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker
They've been playing best friends for over a decade at this point on Sex and the City, but rumors say it's all an act. Catrall was reportedly irked that Parker was paid double other cast members, while Parker's feathers were ruffled as Cattrall's character Samantha became a fan favorite, and took up more and more screen time.
